Understand the role you applied for
Read the responsibilities and requirements carefully. Identify where your background is a close match and where you need clarification. Learn about the employer through its official information before the conversation.
Prepare examples from your work
Choose a few situations that show your relevant skills. Explain the situation, what you were responsible for, what action you took and the result. Specific examples are more useful than broad descriptions such as “hard-working” or “a team player”.
Practise a clear introduction
Prepare a short account of your background, current responsibilities and interest in the role. Use your own words. You should be able to explain your experience naturally rather than memorising a long speech.
Check the practical arrangements
Confirm the time zone, interview format and joining instructions. For an online interview, check your connection, camera and microphone, and choose a quiet place. Keep your resume and the vacancy information available.
Ask thoughtful questions
Ask about the responsibilities, team, working arrangements and next steps. If employment terms or costs are unclear, ask the appropriate contact to explain them. An interview is also your opportunity to understand the role better.
